Se alaafia ni, family? I pray this message finds you each well and bright. Things are busy in a wonderful way on my end. I’m working on a few special projects that I’m really excited about, and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you in upcoming posts. In the meantime, do save the date for a special symposium I’ll be hosting next April. It seems like a ways away but it’ll be here before we know it.

Wants to be Better says... I am emailing you as I sit at work, a place I am not too happy to be at, however I feel all of that is about to change. I may be going back into the field I enjoy working the most in and I am so excited. The reason I am reaching out ...
I’m allllll about positivity. I’m also about keeping it real so I’m going to let you all in all a little secret – it’s not always rose petals and sunshine over here! *laugh* Life is life and we all have our moments when frustration, anxiety, anger and other completely natural emotions rear their heads. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with experiencing or expressing our emotions – we’d be less than human if we didn’t – but... Continue reading ...

Sé àláàfíà ni? (How are you?) I pray this day is finding you well. Summer is officially here as of the Summer Solstice on June 21st and the weather is certainly showing it here in New York. I'm gearing up for a few short trips to enjoy some sun and surf and I hope you're finding ways to have fun in the heat.
Summer is a time for vacations, reading, reflecting and gearing up for the harvest of the fall. Our hearts tend to be open and ready for pleasurable and enjoyment and we tend to ...

Alaafia! I pray the day is treating you well. I had such a beautiful experience this past Sunday; I just had to share it with all of you. Aside from volunteering at the AIDS Walk (you can still donate until June 4th, by the way!) which was great fun, a good friend of mine invited me to a musical recital. This was no ordinary recital, however, it was a beautiful and extraordinary display and testament to the power of music to do wonderful things within people.

Blessed greetings all! I hope you're all doing well on this (finally!) warm day in New York or wherever you may be. I've got a lot of great things to share with you all including the recipes I promised -- who's still fastingwith me? -- but I found out about something too good not to share today so all the rest will have to wait. I came across a great blog entitled "The Beautiful Struggler" by a young woman who goes b... Continue reading ...
I was looking through the children’s books in the City College bookstore the other day. I’m a big kid at heart, and I also have a beautiful niece and nephew who I love to buy books for. Children’s books are always so beautiful and positive – many adults would probably benefit from reading a child’s book every now and then!
Children experience a lot more negative talk than we may realize – they’re often being dictated to, threatened and stifled in many ways...

Riding public transportation in New York can be a real trip! While I’m certainly looking forward to (finally!) getting my driver’s license and getting a car, public transportation is environmentally friendly and it gives me a lot of time to think and reflect on things. Another thing riding the buses and subways enables me to do is people watch – and watch I do.

Isn’t that the LAST thing you want to hear when things aren’t quite going your way? *laugh*
Much as we may not like to hear it sometimes, the reality is it’s always true! Even when we find ourselves in dark, undesirable situations some bit of light – no matter how small – manages to shine through and restore us. We have to be careful of focusing so much on the darkness that we miss that little bit of light in the distance.
Yesterday, I was standing on the train platform and a...
